WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior
Emma Miller scored her 100th career goal and broke the program record for draw controls as the McDaniel College women's lacrosse team pulled away from Hood in a 19-12 victory Wednesday night at Gill Stadium.
The Green Terror (2-1) totaled 38 shots and won 26 draw controls as they picked up their first home win of the season.
Miller had a strong all-around performance, scoring six goals for the third game in-a-row as she totaled six goals, 11 draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Her last goal with 3:47 remaining in the game was the 100th of her career as she became the 18th player in program history to reach the century mark.
Meanwhile, her ninth draw control of the game to start the fourth quarter was the 301st of her career, breaking an 11-year old school record set by Paige Messersmith in 2013. The two are the only players in program history to reach 300.
McDaniel took its largest lead of the game, 11-6, on the second of back-to-back goals by sophomore
Kat Thayer with 11:36 remaining in the third quarter.
However, the Blazers (1-3) would score five of the next six to cut their deficit to one with 1:38 to play before Thayer found sophomore
Charlotte Alexander for her third goal of the game with 51 seconds left to give the Green Terror a 13-11 advantage after three.
The goal was the first of five consecutive for McDaniel who led 17-11 following back-to-back goals from freshman
Emma Carpenter with 8:51 remaining. The Green Terror scored seven of the final eight goals and outscored the visitors 6-1 in the fourth quarter, out-shooting them 12-3 and winning all seven draw controls.
Miller, Alexander and senior
Emma Legacy each had a hat-trick as the trio combined for 14 goals. Legacy totaled four goals, one assist and nine draw controls. Thayer finished with two goals, one assist, one ground ball, three draw controls and one caused turnover.
McDaniel's 26 draw controls were the team's highest total since it had 27 at Swarthmore on April 15, 2023.
In goal, sophomore
Caleigh Kohr made seven saves.
The Green Terror travel to Susquehanna on Saturday for a noon opening draw against the River Hawks.
