WESTMINSTER, Md. - Randolph-Macon scored seven first-quarter goals to take an early lead en route to an 18-10 victory over the McDaniel College women's lacrosse team in its home opener Saturday at Gill Stadium.
The Green Terror (1-1) were led by six goals from senior
Emma Miller who also had six in the season opener at Goucher. She also added four draw controls and two ground balls.
Miller now has 94 career goals, just six short of becoming the 18th player in program history to score 100 goals.
Miller gave McDaniel a 2-1 lead with 12:25 left in the first, scoring just 12 seconds after junior
Paris Conord tied the game at 1-1.
However, the Yellow Jackets (3-0) scored the game's next three goals to take a 4-2 advantage before scoring the final three of the quarter to increase their lead to four. All three goals for the Green Terror came on free positions.
Randolph-Macon scored seven goals on nine shots in the first quarter while holding an 8-3 margin in draw controls.
After being outscored by four in the opening quarter, McDaniel was outscored by just four over the final three quarters. Emma Taylor totaled six of her eight saves in the first half for the Yellow Jackets who led 11-5 at halftime.
Randolph-Macon held a slim 7-5 advantage in the second half with Miller scoring all five goals for the Green Terror. Two of Miller's second-half goals were assisted by senior
Gaby Kohr who leads the team with five this season.
Defensively, sophomore
Caleigh Kohr totaled five saves while sophomore
Kat Thayer had three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior
Emma Legacy totaled one goal, two ground balls, three draw controls and one caused turnover.
McDaniel hosts Hood on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.
