Senior Trio Leads McDaniel to Season-Opening Win at Goucher

BALTIMORE, Md. - Seniors Emma Miller, Gaby Kohr and Emma Legacy combined for 11 goals and three assists as the McDaniel College women's lacrosse team opened the 2024 season with a 17-1 victory over Goucher Tuesday night on Beldon Field.

The Green Terror (1-0) posted their 10th-straight win against the Gophers and began the year with a win for the third consecutive season.

Miller finished with a career-high six goals and six points as she totaled her 16th career hat-trick. The team's leading goal scorer a year ago, she now has 88 goals in 40 career games as she looks to become the 18th player in program history to score 100 goals.

Miller scored the game's first three goals, netting a hat-trick in just 43 seconds as McDaniel led 3-0 with 11:31 remaining in the first quarter.

Goals by Kohr and senior Michaela Reid gave the visitors a 5-0 lead after the first quarter before they added five more in the second. Miller completed the sock-trick with three more second quarter goals while Legacy scored twice as the Green Terror held a 10-0 advantage at halftime.

McDaniel out-shot the Gophers 28-1 in the first 30 minutes while winning 8-of-11 draw controls and forcing 11 turnovers.

Six different players scored for the Green Terror in the second half, including freshman Emma Carpenter and sophomore Addison Utterback who netted the first of their careers. Utterback also added her first career assist on Kohr's second goal of the game with 11:30 left in the fourth.

Miller also added five draw controls and now has 281 for her career, the second-most in program history. Paige Messersmith holds the record with 300.

A total of 10 players had at least one caused turnover for McDaniel with sophomores Caleigh Kohr and Emma Wood each totaling two. Both also had one save in goal.

The Green Terror make their home debut on Saturday when they welcome Randolph-Macon to Gill Stadium for a 1 p.m. opening draw in the second meeting between the schools.
