WESTMINSTER, Md. - Led by seniors
Chuck Contee and
Joey Reiling, the McDaniel College men's basketball team concluded its 2023-24 season on Saturday with a convincing 73-44 victory over Haverford inside the Gill Center on Senior Day.
The Green Terror (11-14, 6-12 CC) finished the season with wins in four of its last six games, including three in-a-row at home.
Saturday's win also marked the 185th in the career of head coach
Kevin Curley, tying him with Alex Ober '63 for the most in program history.
Contee led the team with 18 points and five rebounds while Reiling had a season-high 13 points, one shy of his career high, to go along five rebounds and five assists.
McDaniel led 8-6 just over three minutes into the first half before a 30-7 run gave the team a 38-13 advantage following a three-pointer by Reiling with 1:06 remaining. Contee scored 13 points in the opening 20 minutes while sophomore
Jonas Sujeta added seven.
The Green Terror shot 56 percent from the floor in the first half and went 7-for-14 from three-point range. They also limited the Fords (4-21, 1-17 CC) to just 21.4 percent while scoring 14 points off nine Haverford turnovers en route to a 38-15 halftime lead.
The second half saw McDaniel stretch its lead to as many as 34 points with 10 different players finding the scoring column. A total of 16 players saw action for the Green Terror, including sophomore
Tyler Bramblett who scored his first points of the season to provide the final margin.
Reiling led the way with seven second-half points as McDaniel shot 50 percent from the floor. The team shot 52.9 percent for the game and was 10-for-20 from behind the arc. Sujeta finished with nine points while senior
Jahdel Darego added a season-high eight in his first start.
Graduate student
Carter Truby totaled seven points, four rebounds and two assists in his final game as a Green Terror as the four "seniors" outscored Haverford, 46-44.
The team also honored senior
David Smoot who graduated in December with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.
