McDaniel Falls in Overtime at Dickinson in Conference Opener

CARLISLE, Pa. - Dickinson rallied from a seven-point deficit late in the third quarter to post a 48-45 overtime victory versus the McDaniel College women's basketball team Wednesday in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.

The Green Terror (5-2, 0-1 CC) finished its five-game road trip with three wins, but dropped its fifth-straight game at the Kline Center.

Senior Lil Overcash led the team with 13 points, five rebounds and a career-high six assists while freshman Lauren Cavoli had 11 points and a career-high four rebounds. Junior Elaina Beckett added nine points and 11 rebounds.

McDaniel took its largest lead of the game on a three-pointer by Overcash with 3:01 remaining in the third, 29-22.

However, the Red Devils (4-3, 1-0 CC) outscored the visitors 14-7 over the final 13 minutes of regulation before scoring the first five points of overtime.

The Green Terror missed the second of two free throws to take the lead with 21 seconds remaining in regulation before each team missed their final shot attempt to win the game, sending the contest to overtime tied at 36-36.

Dickinson scored nine of its 13 fourth-quarter points off five McDaniel turnovers.

In the extra period, the Red Devils scored 10 of their 12 points from the free throw line, going 10-for-13 as the Green Terror were whistled for eight fouls. Clare Cronley went 8-of-8 from the line, including 4-for-4 in the final 35 seconds to keep the visitors at bay.

Cronley finished the game with nine points, all coming from the free throw line where she was 9-for-10.

After shooting 47.5 percent from the floor in the first half, the Green Terror were hampered by a 21.9 percent performance in the second and overtime. They were also just 6-of-16 from the free throw line for the game.

McDaniel looks to rebound on Saturday when they return home for the first time since Nov. 9, hosting Ursinus in a Centennial Conference contest beginning at 1 p.m.
