READING, Pa. - The McDaniel College men's basketball team scored seven of the game's final nine points to post a 72-67 road win at Penn State Berks Tuesday at the Beaver Community Center.
The Green Terror (3-1) posted their first road win of the season, shooting 56.0 percent from the floor in the second half and scoring 20 of their 37 second-half points in the paint.
Junior
Jonas Sujeta led the way with 24 points and six rebounds, posting his seventh career game with least 20 points, including third in four games this season. Junior
David Kearney added 16 points, six rebounds and two blocks while graduate student
Chuck Contee had 11 points, three rebounds, six assists and three steals.
McDaniel's five starters combined to score all 72 points as senior
Lorin Hall scored 12 and junior
Kevin Connelly had nine. Hall also added a game-high seven rebounds.
The Nittany Lions (0-5) scored the game's first seven points and led by as many as 12 with 4:30 remaining, 33-21. However, led by 11 points from Sujeta and Kearney, the Green Terror finished the half on a 14-4 run to cut their halftime deficit to two, 37-35, following a three-pointer by Contee with one second left.
Sujeta and Kearney combined for 25 of the team's 35 first-half points.
McDaniel continued its strong play to start the second half, scoring eight of the first 11 to take its first lead, 43-40, on a layup by Contee and two free throws by Hall.
The second half featured five ties, the last coming at 65-65 with 4:47 to play before a three-pointer by Sujeta and layup by Hall put the visitors in front by five with 2:15 remaining, 70-65.
Penn State Berks did not score over the final two minutes, missing its final three shot attempts as the Green Terror posted their second win over the Nittany Lions in the last two seasons.
McDaniel faces its second-straight opponent from the United East Conference on Thursday when it hosts Bryn Athyn. Tip-off from the Gill Center is at 7:30 p.m.
