Demontae Gifford totaled 13 tackles, 4.5 for loss, two sacks, two interceptions and three forced fumbles as the McDaniel College football team fell at Franklin & Marshall Saturday, 24-0.
The Green Terror (1-6, 0-4 CC) defense limited the Diplomats to just over 300 yards of total offense and three second-half points.
However, Franklin & Marshall (4-3, 2-2 CC) scored touchdowns on two of its first three drives before adding a third on its final drive of the first half with 39 seconds remaining.
Meanwhile, the Diplomat defense forced punts on five of McDaniel's first seven possessions while adding an interception and a turnover on downs to take a 21-0 halftime lead.
In addition to their strong defensive play, the Green Terror offense doubled its production in the second half, but were hampered by back-to-back turnovers on two of its first three third-quarter possessions. They also had a turnover on downs on their best drive of the day inside the Franklin & Marshall 40-yard line.
Murphy finished with a team-high eight tackles, including 0.5 for loss, three passes defensed and two interceptions. Gifford had five tackles with 4.0 for loss, 2.0 sacks, three forced fumbles and three quarterback hurries.
The Diplomats (4-3, 2-2 CC) improved to 3-0 at home this season after back-to-back road games at Ursinus, who was receiving votes in the national polls, and No. 21 Johns Hopkins. F&M lost both games by a combined 13 points.
McDaniel returns home for the first time since Oct. 12 next Saturday when its hosts Ursinus for Homecoming. Kickoff from Rembert Field at Kenneth R. Gill Stadium is at 1 p.m.
