WESTMINSTER, Md. - Randolph-Macon was able to find the back of the net in the 19th minute and despite being out-shot 18-8, was able to make it hold as the Yellow Jackets handed the McDaniel College women's soccer team 1-0 home loss on Tuesday.
The Green Terror (1-1-1) suffered their first regular season loss at home since Oct. 13, 2021, snapping a 10-game unbeaten streak in which they posted an 8-0-2 record while outscoring opponents, 20-3.
McDaniel out-shot Randolph-Macon by 10, including 13-5 in the second half, but could not find the equalizer. Abby Cook finished with six saves for the visitors, four of which came in the second half.
The Green Terror also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Cook stopped the first two shots she faced in the game's first six minutes before the Yellow Jackets (1-1) scored the game's only goal just 18:25 into the contest. Alexa Stohr scored off an assist from Olivia Owens on a low shot from the left side that snuck inside the right post.
The goal marked the first time that McDaniel had trailed in its last six games at home, a span of 450:23. It was also the first goal allowed in three career starts by junior
Lauren Hoolahan, ending a personal scoreless streal of 198:25 this season after shutout victories over Kean and Stockton.
Randolph-Macon tried to add an insurance tally three minutes later, but junior Hoolahan was up to the task, making one of her two first-half saves. She finished the game with three.
After three quick shots by the Yellow Jackets to start the second half, the Green Terror picked up the offensive pressure, out-shooting the visitors 12-2 over the final 36 minutes. McDaniel had four of the last five shots in the final 10 minutes, but three were off target and the other was saved by Cook.
Junior
Liz LeChard led the offensive push with seven shots while junior
Jessica Weinoldt had four.
The Green Terror return to action on Saturday, Sept. 9 when they travel to York (PA) for a non-conference contest with the Spartans beginning at 4 p.m.
