Mitchell Leads McDaniel Past Wilson in Green Terror Classic

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Led by 15 kills from sophomore Kenzie Mitchell, the McDaniel College volleyball team remained undefeated in four matches at home this season with a sweep of Wilson Friday night at the Gill Center.

The Green Terror (7-1) extended their win streak to five and are off to their best start to a season since 2018 when their won 10 of their first 11 matches.

Senior Tatiana Hamilton totaled 23 assists and six aces while sophomore Samantha Fadel added eight digs and three service aces.

After an early point by Wilson in the first set, Mitchell had back-to-back kills to put McDaniel in front. With Hamilton serving, the team ripped off eight consecutive points, including a trio of aces. Freshman Hannah Waters added a kill to put the Green Terror up by 10 and they never looked back, winning the first set, 25-11.

Hamilton kept the momentum going into the second set with four-straight points. Freshman Reese Beck picked up a kill to stretch the lead to 12-4 and sophomore Emily Osborne came off the bench and tallied to kills to grow the lead. Junior Kathy Taveras added an ace late in the set, followed by a kill from senior Nia Roberts to win the second set, 25-11.

In the third, Wilson took the lead early, but McDaniel quickly reclaimed the lead and steadily built it up with an ace from Fadel and a kill from freshman Abigail May. Leading 11-6, junior Angalyn Strouse served eight points in a row with kills from Mitchell and freshman Renita Bankole-Gibson en route to a 25-10 victory.

McDaniel continues competition in the Green Terror Classic with two matches tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m. against Franciscan.
