McDaniel Falls Short in Upset Bid Against No. 18 Muhlenberg

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Dominick Visintin scored with 2:38 remaining in the fourth quarter to allow No. 18 Muhlenberg to escape with a 7-6 victory over the McDaniel College men's lacrosse team Saturday at Gill Stadium.

The Green Terror (7-6, 0-4 CC) scored the first three goals of the second half to rally from a 6-3 halftime deficit, tying the game for the third time, 6-6, on the sixth goal of the season from senior Zach Micklos with 12:18 left in the fourth quarter.

After Ryan May scored his first goal of the season with 38 seconds remaining in the second quarter to give the Mules a three-goal lead, the McDaniel defense held the visitors scoreless for 28 minutes until Visintin scored the game-winner.

Muhlenberg out-shot the Green Terror, 46-24, including 22-12 in the second, but graduate student Brighton Lorber made 22 saves, 10 of which came in the second half. He also picked up three ground balls.

Freshman Jack Sabo also contributed to the defensive effort, totaling two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Led by its two leading scorers, sophomore Jason Fritz and senior Nick DeLoriers, the Green Terror chipped away at the lead, outscoring the Mules 2-0 in the third with Fritz netting his 22nd goal of the season and DeLoriers picking up his team-leading 29th assist on the first career goal for senior Matthew Wilson with 7:43 to play in the third.

Face-offs and turnovers limited McDaniel's comeback efforts as Muhlenberg won 13-of-17 face-offs, including 5-of-6 in the second half, and the Green Terror had 19 turnovers with 10 in the second half.

In his first game since March 18, Fritz totaled three points with two goals and one assist while DeLoriers also had three points with one goal and two assists. Senior Kenny Benson had two ground balls and one caused turnover.

McDaniel returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Dickinson at Gill Stadium on Military Appreciation Day. Face-off is at 4 p.m.
