WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel College women's lacrosse senior
Emily Sheppard scored three goals as the Green Terror fell to Shenandoah Wednesday night in a non-conference contest at Gill Stadium, 17-7.
McDaniel (1-1) also got three points from junior
Emma Miller who finished with two goals and one assist.
Led by three goals from Madison Re, the Hornets scored the game's first nine goals to take a 9-0 lead after the first quarter. They led 3-0 in the first 1:36 with three different goal scorers.
Sheppard got the Green Terror on the board just 26 seconds into the second quarter before Shenandoah added two more goals to stretch its lead to 10 at the break, 11-1.
Sheppard and Miller each added two goals in the second half with Sheppard completing her hat-trick with just five seconds remaining in the game.
After being outshot 11-2 and falling behind 9-0 in the opening 15 minutes, McDaniel limited the Hornets to just eight goals and 11 shots over the final 45. Freshman
Caleigh Kohr played the final three quarters in goal, totaling two second-half saves while picking up one ground ball.
Senior
Kendall Gracie finished with two ground balls and three caused turnovers while Miller added nine draw controls and two ground balls. Senior
Acadia Noll had two goals and three draw controls.
As a team, the Green Terror held a 16-11 edge in draw controls, including 9-5 in the first half.
McDaniel hits the road for the first time in 2023 on Saturday when it travels to Ashland, Virginia to take on Randolph-Macon. Opening draw is at 1 p.m.
