McDaniel Rallies For 72-70 Victory Over Ursinus in Overtime

WESTMINSTER, Md. - A three-pointer by sophomore Jonas Sujeta with 7.9 seconds remaining in overtime gave the McDaniel College men's basketball team a 72-70 Centennial Conference victory over Ursinus Saturday inside the Gill Center.

The Green Terror (3-3, 1-2 CC) picked up their first conference victory of the season and improved to 3-1 in overtime games the last two seasons.

Trailing 70-64 with 1:51 left in overtime, McDaniel finished the game on an 8-0 run, highlighted by Sujeta's game-winning three-pointer. On the Bears' final three possessions over that time, the Green Terror forced two turnovers before a desperation step back three-pointer at the buzzer by Marlin Wise was off the mark.

Sujeta scored six of McDaniel's nine points in the extra period, all of which came in the final 1:34 on a three-point play and three-point jump shot.

The Bears (3-4, 1-2 CC) attempted just three shots in overtime, scoring five of their seven points from the free throw line where they were 5-of-6. For the game, Ursinus attempted 32 free throws, making 23.

Senior Chuck Contee led the Green Terror with 17 points, 13 of which came in the second half, including a jumper with 10.1 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 63-63 and force overtime.

The game featured eight ties and four lead changes and was tied 32-32 at halftime and 63-63 at the end of regulation.

Sophomore David Kearney totaled his second double double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds while adding three blocks. Sophomore Christian Taylor added 12 points and three steals.

McDaniel continues Centennial Conference play on Wednesday as the team heads to Chestertown, Md. for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Washington College.
