WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel College men's soccer freshman
Chase Osborn scored his first career goal to highlight the team's 2-1 non-conference victory over local rival Goucher Tuesday at the Soccer Complex.
The Green Terror (5-6-5) finished unbeaten in eight non-conference games this season, posting a 4-0-4 record while outscoring its opponents, 9-3.
McDaniel also extended its unbeaten streak against the Gophers to seven at 5-0-2. The team is also 5-0-2 in its last seven at home against its Landmark Conference rival.
The Green Terror led 1-0 at the half despite being out-shot, 10-5. Goucher registered the first three shots of the game, two of which were saved by
Gianluca Conte before Osborn netted the first of his career following a corner kick in the eighth minute. Junior
Matt Bowes picked up his first assist of the season and second in his 45-game career.
Conte totaled all four of his saves in the first 45 minutes as McDaniel limited the Gophers (8-6-2) to just one shot in the second half.
The second half began with two Goucher yellow cards just 43 seconds apart before freshman
Charlie Olson scored on the first Gren Terror shot of the half. Following a throw-in near midfield, junior
Nick Lewis controlled the loose ball, turned up field and sent a through ball to a sprinting Olson who drove it to the far right corner passed Dylan Weston who had come out to cut down the angle.
Lewis picked up his first point of the season and third assist of his career while Olson picked up his fourth goal of the season of ninth point. He is currently second on the team in goals and points behind sophomore
AJ Nordone who has five goals and 13 points.
Osborn became ninth different goal scorer for McDaniel this season while Lewis was the 11th to record a point.
The Green Terror would headed for their sixth shutout of the season and the third in four start for Conte until Domenic Arena scored his first career goal in the 83rd minute on the Gophers only shot of the half.
McDaniel wraps up the regular season with a Centennial Conference contest against Haverford on Saturday. Prior to the game, the team will honor graduate student
Austin Heid and senior
Tyler Reid in a pregame ceremony. A win would improve the team's overall record to .500, making them eligible for a postseason appearance in the ECAC Division III Men's Soccer Championship.
