Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore scored in the 81st minute to break a 2-2 tie as the Garnet kept its playoff hopes alive with a key conference win over the McDaniel College men's soccer team Saturday at Clothier Field, 3-2.
The game marked the final road contest of the season for the Green Terror (4-6-5, 1-6-1 CC) who had their sixth game of the season decided by one goal.
The Garnet (4-6-5, 2-2-4 CC) scored twice in the first half before McDaniel tied the game at 2-2 in the 69th minute.
Both teams battled early, but it was Swarthmore who struck first with a goal from Adrien Marcelli in the 15th minute McDaniel tried to recover, but the Garnet kept up the pressure and had another shot in the 33rd minute which was saved by graduate keeper
Austin Heid.
Heid eclipsed 100 saves in his two-year McDaniel career after transferring from Centennial Conference foe Washington College.
In the 42nd minute, Bless Tumushabe found the back of the net to double the Swarthmore lead before the visitors responded just two minutes later. SophomoreÂ
Carver Neary got position just outside the box and drew a foul, setting up a free kick. Junior defender
Matt Bowes lined it up and curled it perfectly into the top right corner to cut the Garnet lead in half.
Trailing by one, the Green Terror came out physical in the second half and received three yellow cards in the opening 15 minutes. In the 69th minute, Heid gained possession off an errant pass, stepped back and connected on a long punt that bounced over the defender's head in the back line as freshman

 controlled the loose ball and chipped it over the keeper to tie the game at 2-2.
As the game entered the final 10 minutes, Swarthmore broke through in the 81st minute, scored the game-winning goal on its 24th shot of the contest. The Garnet out-shot McDaniel 26-10, but just eight were on target.
McDaniel wraps up the regular season with back-to-back home games beginning on Tuesday at home against Goucher. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
