Women Post Four First-Place Finishes on Senior Day

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Four first-place finishes highlighted Senior Day for the McDaniel College women's swimming team as the Green Terror fell to Bryn Mawr, 129-70.

Three different individuals accounted for the four first-place finishes, including two from junior Abby Cook who was also honored on Senior Day as she will be graduate a semester early in December 2023.

Cook touched the wall first in season-best times in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Her time of 25.97 seconds in the 50 free edged out senior Ella Tomkins who finished second in 26.41 seconds. Cook's time of 1:03.96 in the 100 back was three seconds ahead of Bryn Mawr's Maya Madden.

Meanwhile, Tomkins finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:00.09 which was six seconds faster than second place.

Cook and Tomkins also partnered with sophomore Amanda Thompson and freshman Jane Walkinshaw to finish second in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:57.23, shattering the group's previous mark of 2:14.25.

Thompson accounted for the team's fourth first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, just missing her previous best time by 0.02 seconds as she clocked in at 57.13 seconds. She was also third in the 500-yard freestyle.

Senior Ashley Farrington did turn in a season-best time in the 100 free, touching the wall in 59.87 seconds which was four seconds better than her previous mark. She also finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:22.90.

Senior Emma Lindell also had a fourth and sixth-place showing in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 500 free, respectively, before joining Farrington, freshman Mackenzie Skelton and senior Sarah Dunn to place third in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Individually, Dunn finished eighth in the 100 free with a season-best time of 1:08.79.

Walkinshaw finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 2:16.28, just ahead of Skelton, while sophomore Tori McArthur posted three season bests in the 200-yard IM, 100 back and 100 breast.

McDaniel returns to action on Sunday as it makes the short trip to Baltimore to face Division I Loyola Maryland. The meet begins at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
