HUNTINGTON, Pa. - McDaniel College football sophomore
Eric Grinwis threw for 410 yards and the Green Terror had two 100-yard receivers as they opened Centennial Conference play with a 35-19 road victory over Juniata at Saturday.
McDaniel (1-1) posted its fourth win in the last six meetings against the Eagles and their third-straight at Knox Stadium.
Grinwis is the first Green Terror to throw for 400 yards since Sept. 24, 1994 when Brian Van Deusen completed 28-of-42 passes for 433 yards in a 22-20 victory at Ursinus. Grinwis completed 26-of-39 pass attempts with of 20 yards more.
His favorite targets were junior
Wesley Nchinda and senior
Matteo DeGennaro who combined for 14 catches for 206 yards. Nchinda had six receptions for 106 yards while DeGennaro had eight for 100 yards. They are first two players to have 100 yards receiving in the same game for McDaniel since Sept. 30, 2017 when Bamasa Bailor had nine catches for 129 yards and Matt Schleifer caught five passes for 145 yards, ironically, against Juniata.
In addition, that was also the last time McDaniel amassed over 500 yards of total offense as the Green Terror had 535. Today, the team finished with 528 for an average of 6.5 yards per play.
The game saw five lead changes with McDaniel taking a 3-0 advantage on a 27-yard field goal by senior and reigning Centennial Conference Special Teams Player of the Week,
William Looney, with 7:12 remaining in the first quarter before the Eagles led for the final time, 13-10, on a 70-yard touchdown pass with 5:51 to play in the second.
The Green Terror regained the lead for good on their ensuing possession following a 6-play, 70-yard drive that was finished off on a 1-yard touchdown run by graduate student
Dre Carter with 3:30 left in the second.
Carter increased McDaniel's lead to 22-13 with his second touchdown of the game on a 2-yard run to begin the second half.
After Juniata pulled within three, 22-19, on a 9-yard touchdown pass with 5:22 remaining in the third quarter, the Green Terror sealed the victory by scoring the final 13 points in the fourth, highlighted by a 49-yard touchdown pass from Grinwis to junior
Aaron Gale.
Senior
Trent Gaskins provided the final margin on a 1-yard scoring run with 2:40 remaining for his second touchdown of the game and his fifth in two games this season. He entered the year with just two in 17 career games.
Despite averaging 312.0 yards per game passing, McDaniel has scored seven of their eight offensive touchdowns on the ground this season.
Defensively, the Green Terror had three sacks, two interceptions and forced two fumbles. Senior

Jevin Tranquillo had two interceptions and freshman
Aiden Bell had two sacks and a forced fumble.
McDaniel returns home to face Franklin & Marshall next Saturday, Sept. 17 at Gill Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
