THE REST OF THE STORY
• McDaniel raced out to a 6-0 lead in the game's first 1:53 behind baskets from three different players and never looked back. Back-to-back baskets from Josh Arruda after an Ismael Baqai 3-pointer made it a 17-11 game, sparked a quick 8-0 burst that stretched the advantage to 25-11 with 6:05 remaining in the opening half. Washington got as close as 30-22 with 1:54 remaining but a Dragan Hornatko (Baltimore, Md./Glenelg Country Day School) wing 3-pointer off an inbounds play in the final four seconds of the half pushed the lead back to double digits at the break.
• Four points from Carter Truby and three each from Kaelen Kanealey, Josh Sproul (Princess Anne, Md./Washington Academy), and Hornatko fueled the 15-5 start to the second half that built a 48-27 lead. The Shoremen responded with an 8-1 counter to close to within 14 midway through the half but McDaniel immediately scored nine in a row to make it a 58-35 game with 7:31 to play. A Sproul basket-and-foul gave the Green Terror its largest lead at 71-40 with 1:56 to play before Will Matheny set the final margin in the last minute.
