THE REST OF THE STORY
• The teams traded baskets over the first 3:19 of the game before a D'Naisha Bellamy-Greene jumper with 3:45 remaining in the first quarter gave Franklin & Marshall a 10-8 edge. Kennedy Wilburn hit the second of two free throws nearly a minute later for a three-point lead. Meggie Burgess made it an 11-10 game with a jumper at the 1:55 mark – McDaniel's only field goal in the final 6:41 of the period – before Jaclyn Feit stretched the lead back to three at the end of the quarter.
• The Diplomats scored the first nine points of the second quarter before Malloy Conroy (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) halted the scoring drought and made it a 22-12 game with 6:30 on the clock. Four more points from Conroy trimmed the margin to 22-16 with 4:35 showing. Franklin & Marshall extended the lead back to 11 before a pair of Maddie Thompson (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) 3-pointers keyed an 8-0 close to the half, drawing the Green Terror within 27-24 at the break.
• After a slow start to the third quarter, Ellie Connelly hit a layup with 5:39 remaining in the period for a 30-29 edge. After a Natalie Kolb layup put the Diplomats back in front, Conroy converted layups on consecutive possessions for a 34-31 lead with 4:45 on the clock. Franklin & Marshall, however, held McDaniel without a point for the next 7 minutes, 22 seconds and scored the final 10 points of the third quarter to take a 41-34 lead into the final 10 minutes. Five different Diplomats scored two points each in the run.
• Kenna Williams stretched the lead to nine before a Connelly layup snapped the scoring drought with 7:23 on the clock. The lead remained between six and eight points until a Julia Ryan 3-pointer and Conroy layup closed the margin to 48-44 with 3:42 remaining. Alisyn Narracci, however, canned a triple on the ensuing possession to push the lead back to seven. McDaniel would not get any closer than six the rest of the way.
