THE REST OF THE STORY
• After five lead changes in the first six minutes of the game, a Carl Schaffer 3-pointer and two free throws gave Gettysburg a 10-6 lead with 12:30 showing. The Bullet lead extended to 16-11 at the 8:53 mark before a Josh Sproul (Princess Anne, Md./Washington Academy) three-point play closed the margin to two. McDaniel trimmed the deficit to two three more times before an Elijah William 3-pointer and Schaller jumper stretched the advantage to 26-19 with 4:30 to play in the opening half. The Green Terror pulled to within two on two more occasions before a Schaller jumper in the final 13 seconds made it a 32-28 game at the intermission.
• A Ryan McKeon three-point play with 14:25 remaining capped a 6-0 burst that stretched the lead to its largest point at 40-31. Gettysburg, however, then went the next seven minutes without a point, McDaniel could only close to within 40-37 during the dry spell, though. Trailing 51-45 on a Schaller free throw, Kaelen Kanealey (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) cut the basket and got a basket on goaltending call to cut the deficit to four with 2:57 remaining. Mike Wallace hit the second of two free throws 53 seconds later and then canned a jumper with 1:19 on the clock to make it a 51-50 game. The teams traded missed jumpers before Jack Rodney hit the first of two free throws with 18.6 seconds remaining to make it a two-point game. After a timeout in the front court with 13.3 seconds showing, McKeon came up with his fifth block of the game and Rassoul Abakar secured the rebound. He missed the first of two free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining and the potential game-tying 3-point attempt hit off the back iron.
