WESTMINSTER, Md. - Sophomore
Jared Snow found junior
Hunter Sigler for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 57 seconds remaining to give the McDaniel College football team a 19-16 victory over Gettysburg Saturday on Rembert Field at Kenneth R. Gill Stadium.
The Green Terror (3-6, 3-5 CC) extended its win streak against the Bullets to five-straight, including three in-a-row at home.
Gettysburg took its first lead, 16-13, following a 3-yard touchdown run by Rocco Abdinoor early in the fourth quarter. With McDaniel driving deep into the Bullet territory, Matt Mikukla intercepted Snow at the 12-yard line, giving the visitors possession with 3:07 to play.
However, the Green Terror defense forced a Gettysburg punt with under two minutes remaining. On fourth-and-5 from his own 30-yard line, Doug Cummings' punt was blocked by freshman
Aiden Bell and recovered by junior
Jevin Tranquillo, giving McDaniel first-and-goal at the Bullets' eight yard line with 1:39 left.
Three plays later on third-and-goal from the 15, Snow found Sigler in the back right corner of the end zone for the game-winning score, his sixth receiving touchdown this season.
On Gettysburg's ensuing possession, the Green Terror defense forced four consecutive incomplete passes, three of which were broken up by Tranquillo, senior
Riley Wolfensberger and sophomore
Alex Brown.
McDaniel held the Bullets to just 16 yards on 18 plays in the fourth quarter, forcing three punts and a turnover on downs on four possessions.
Snow finished the game with 177 yards on 12-of-21 passing and two touchdowns, both to Sigler who had three catches for 71 yards while drawing two pass interference penalties.
Freshman
Jaden Weatherspoon had two catches for 68 yards while senior
Trent Gaskins and graduate student
Dre Carter combined for 116 yards rushing. Gaskins also had a 3-yard touchdown run to open the scoring with 11:06 remaining in the first quarter.
Defensively, graduate student
Jayshun Ramsey led the team with nine tackles and Tranquillo had seven tackles, including six solo and two pass breakups. Junior
Mamut Conteh had 2.5 tackles for loss while freshman
Christian Homer had two interceptions, the first of which came in the end zone and led to the Green Terror's first touchdown to give them a 13-3 lead with 13:55 left in the second quarter.
McDaniel concludes its 2022 season on the road next Saturday, Nov. 12 at No. 18 Johns Hopkins. Kickoff from Homewood Field is at noon.
