BALTIMORE, Md. - Johns Hopkins scored 28 unanswered points in the second half as the 18th-ranked Blue Jays posted a 44-7 victory over the McDaniel College football team Saturday at Homewood Field.
The Green Terror (3-7, 3-6 CC) posted their best season since 2016 when they also went 3-7 and had three conference victories.
Just 21 points separated the team from .500 record as they held a 20-3 lead on Catholic midway through the second quarter on Sept. 3 and led 3-0 at Moravian after three quarters on Oct. 29.
On Saturday, McDaniel trailed 16-0 late in the second quarter before graduate student
Dre Carter scored on a 2-yard run to cap an 8-play, 90-yard drive to pull the team within nine at halftime.
However, the Blue Jays (9-1, 8-1 CC) scored on back-to-back drives to start the fourth quarter to take a 30-7 advantage before posting two more touchdowns in the fourth.
Meanwhile, the Johns Hopkins defense limited the Green Terror to just 77 yards on 30 plays in the second half. McDaniel was also 0-for-7 on third-down conversions.
Sophomore
Jared Snow got his third start of the season and was one of three players to complete a pass for the Green Terror. He was 6-of-13 for 88 yards, including a 51-yard strike to senior
Trent Gaskins on the team's scoring drive.
Sophomore
Eric Grinwis was 3-of-6 passing while junior
Ethan Brown also had a completion.
Gaskins had 73 yards of total offense, finishing with 21 yards rushing and 51 receiving yards. Sophomore
Jeremiah Maxwell had 119 all-purpose yards, including 112 yards on seven kick returns for an average of 16.0 yards per return.
Defensively, graduate studentÂ
Jayshun Ramsey had 11 tackles, 1.5 for loss and one sack. Over the team's final four games, he totaled 37 tackles, 2.5 for loss, one sack, one interception and one pass breakup.
Senior
Riley Wolfensberger had eight tackles with one for loss and one fumble recovery while senior
Mike Dunn added seven tackles, one for loss and one forced fumble.
The McDaniel defense forced three Hopkins turnovers, including two fumbles and one interception.
With the 2022 season complete, the focus shifts to 2023 as the Centennial Conference enters into an scheduling agreement with the New Jersey Athletic Conference to replace the loss of Centennial Conference champion Susquehanna, Moravian and Juniata to the Landmark Conference.
The Green Terror are scheduled to open next season at Catholic on Sept. 2, 2023.
