BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Moravian scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns as the Greyhounds posted a 14-3 victory over the McDaniel College football team Saturday at Rocco Calvo Field.
The Green Terror (2-6, 2-5 CC) fell for the first time in the last three road meetings against Moravian, suffering their first loss since Sept. 10, 2016.
Moravian limited McDaniel to just 201 yards of total offense while forcing two turnovers and registering four sacks.
Sophomore
Eric Grinwis completed 22-of-27 passes for 128 yards, but was intercepted twice while graduate student
Dre Carter rushed for 67 yards on 15 carries.
The Green Terror scored on their second drive of the game when senior
William Looney capped a 13-play, 66-yard drive with a 35-yard field goal to put the visitors in front, 3-0, with 6:16 remaining in the first quarter. The drive was extended by a roughing the kicker penalty on fourth-and-5 from their own 21.
Looney is now 7-of-9 on field goal attempts this season, including 2-of-3 from over 30 yards.
McDaniel held the Greyhounds (3-5, 3-4 CC) scoreless through three quarters, limiting them to just 130 yards on 44 plays, an average of just 3.0 yards per play.
However, Moravian totaled 115 yards on just 12 plays, an average of 9.6 yards, on its two scoring drives.
After six punts, a turnover on downs and the end of the first half on its first eight drives, Moravian finally broke through with a 6-play, 40-yard drive that culminated in a 5-yard touchdown run by Nick Boyle with 9:03 left in the fourth quarter.
The ensuing McDaniel drive stalled near midfield and the Greyhounds regained possession following the eighth punt of the game by the Green Terror.
Six plays and 75 yards later, Moravian found themselves in the end zone again, this time on a 5-yard run by Brad Bryan.
Grinwis was picked off for the second time on the first play of McDaniel's next drive and the Greyhounds managed to run the clock down to 11 seconds before turning it over on downs, improving their record to 3-0 at home this season.
Senior
Mike Dunn led the defense with 11 total tackles, including two for loss and one pass breakup. Graduate student
Jayshun Ramsey has eight tackles with one for loss sand one pass breakup.
McDaniel returns home to face Gettysburg next Saturday, Nov. 5 on Senior Day. Kickoff from Rembert Field at Kenneth R. Gill Stadium is at 1 p.m.
