WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel College football senior
Corey King rushed for a career-high 50 yards to lead the Green Terror offensively in a 58-0 loss to No. 19 Susquehanna Saturday at Rembert Field at Kenneth R. Gill Stadium.
McDaniel (2-5, 2-4 CC) rushed for 123 yards as King, senior
Trent Gaskins and graduate student
Dre Carter combined for 124 yards and averaged 4.0 yards per carry.
After the River Hawks converted a Green Terror fumble into the game's first score, McDaniel responded with a 17-play, 68-yard drive down to the Susquehanna 7-yard line totaling almost nine minutes of possession time. However, the drive stalled and the team's 24-yard field goal missed wide right.
Susquehanna (7-0, 6-0 CC) answered with an 80-yard drive with Michael Ruisch finding Kyle Howes from 17 yards for the first of his three receiving touchdowns as the visitors led 14-0 after one.
The River Hawks scored on their first seven possessions, including six touchdowns as they built a 38-0 halftime advantage. The league's top-ranked defense in both points and yards allowed also limited the Green Terror to just 86 yards and six first downs on 32 plays.
Despite entering the game as the league leader in sacks with 20, Susquehanna could muster just one with that coming late in the third quarter on McDaniel's final drive.
King averaged 5.6 yards per carry while Carter averaged 5.1, totaling 36 yards on seven carries. Junior
Ethan Brown, making his first appearance of the season, also averaged 5.0 yards per carry with two rushes for 10 yards. Sophomore
Jeremiah Maxwell totaled 73 all-purpose yards, including 58 on four kick returns.
Defensively, graduate student
Jayshun Ramsey had a season-high nine tackles with four solo stops and one interception while senior
Mike Dunn had seven tackles.
The Green Terror travel to Moravian next Saturday, Oct. 29 looking for their third win in the last five meetings against the Greyhounds. McDaniel has won the last two games at Rocco Calvo Field. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
