WESTMINSTER, Md. - The McDaniel College volleyball team battled in all three sets before falling to conference-leading Johns Hopkins Wednesday night inside the Gill Center, 25-20, 25-13, 25-21.
In the first set, Hopkins scored the first four points, including three on service aces.
Nia Roberts put McDaniel (1-14, 0-6 CC) on the board with back-to-back kills as both teams scored in a back-and-forth battle. The Blue Jays committed two-straight hitting errors to give the Green Terror an 8-7 lead.
Hopkins (12-7, 7-0 CC) began to take control of the set, but McDaniel kept fighting back and scored three straight to tie it at 13-all.

Allyson Burgee connected on a pair of kills to cut into the Blue Jays lead. With Hopkins leading 22-17,

Mackenzie Mitchell for two more kills. Hopkins responded and pulled away to win the first set, 25-20.
The Green Terror jumped out to a two-point lead early in the second set. Hopkins responded and scored six-straight to take an 11-5 lead. The Blue Jays followed that up with another run and the second set ended up with the Johns Hopkins winning, 25-13.
The tightly-contested third set included eight ties, and had swings from both teams throughout the set. With McDaniel trailing by two points, Burgee found an opening in the defense and tallied two more kills to tie the game. The Blue Jays rallied and took a 16-14 lead. After a kill from Hamilton,Â
Kathy Taveras went back to serve for McDaniel. She rattled off four-straight points to put the Green Terror in front, 19-16.
Hopkins again responded with a run of their own to take back the lead. The Blue Jays scored four of the last five points to win the third and final set, 25-21.
McDaniel returns to action on Saturday at Bryn Mawr. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
