THE SKINNY
Swarthmore opened the game on a 16-2 run and never trailed in a 52-46 victory over McDaniel.
THE LEADERS
• Angela DiNunzio (Moorestown, N.J./Paul VI) led the Green Terror with 10 points and eight rebounds.
• Katie Klein (Port Charlotte, Fla./Imagine School at North Port) added 16 points.
FOR THE FOES
• Dana Bandurick paced the Garnet with 24 points and 18 rebounds.
• Alyssa Hayashi added 12 points and seven rebounds.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Kim Kockenmeister opened the game with a layup before Dana Bandurick hit the first of two free throws for a 3-0 lead. After Ellie Connelly (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) converted a layup to make it a 3-2 game with 8:36 on the clock, Alyssa Hayashi drained two free throws and Kockenmeister hit a triple to start a 13-0 run that opened up a 16-2 lead with 3:01 to play in the opening period. Jumpers from Katie Klein and Angela DiNunzio around a single Bandurick free throw made it a 17-6 game after 10 minutes.
• Bandurick stretched the advantage as large as 23-8 midway through the second quarter before McDaniel scored 10 of the final 14 points to trim the deficit to 27-18 at the break. Klein contributed five points in the stretch.
• After a back-and-forth start to the third quarter, Liliana Overcash (Bend, Ore./Mountain View) canned a triple an DiNunzio hit a layup to make it a 31-27 game with 4:48 remaining in the period. The Garnet pushed the lead back out to 40-29 before a Klein layup in the final minute got it back to single digits entering the final quarter.
• Maddie Thompson (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) hit a jumper and Klein drained a 3-pointer in the corner to once again close the deficit to four, pulling the hosts within 40-36 but the final 8:18 was played in a three-point window to preserve the win for the visitors.
THE INSIDE STORY
• The 10 points and eight rebounds for Angela DiNunzio were both career highs.
• Ellie Connelly added six points and season bests of seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
