THE SKINNY
Dickinson used a 21-10 second quarter to open up a 13-point halftime lead en route to a 63-42 victory over McDaniel.
THE LEADERS
• Mallory Conroy (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) led the Green Terror, scoring 20 points for the second game in a row. She also pulled down six rebounds.
• Katie Klein (Port Charlotte, Fla./Imagine School at North Point) added 13 points.
FOR THE FOES
• Gina Neigel led the Red Devils with 12 points and seven rebounds.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• The first quarter featured three ties and eight lead changes in a period in which neither team led by more than three points. Trailing 9-7, Mallory Conroy hit a jumper with 4:27 to play to tie the game and spark a quick 6-1 burst that Katie Klein capped with two free throws at the 2:44 mark. Two Lindsey Hollenshead free throws and a Jennifer Kremp 3-pointer in the final 1:39 gave Dickinson a 15-13 edge at the end of the quarter.
• After Klein tied the game 1:12 into the second period, Gina Neigel sparked a 12-2 stretch that gave the Red Devils a double-digit advantage midway through the quarter. Dickinson stretched the lead to 36-23 at the intermission.
• After a Caitlin Blackman jumper on the opening possession of the third quarter, Conroy converted a three-point play with 9:36 showing but the Green Terror would go another 10:05 before scoring from the floor again. With a 43-27 lead, the Red Devils scored six straight to open up a 22-point advantage with 1:45 remaining. Five McDaniel free throws in the final 91 seconds helped close the score to 52-32 after three quarters.
• A pair of baskets from Klein around a Meggie Burgess (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) jumper closed the deficit to 52-38 with 7:22 to play. After the teams traded two points, five straight from Kolb stretched the lead back to 19 en route to the 21-point victory.
