Five points from Mallory Conroy, including a layup just before the period expired, keyed a 7-0 close that knotted the game after 10 minutes.
• Kennedy Wilburn and Conroy traded layups in the first 2:47 of the second period before a Meg Navarro 3-pointer and Williams layup put the visitors in front 16-11 with 4:43 showing. An Angela DiNunzio (Moorestown, N.J./Paul VI) jumper with 1:24 to play in the quarter made it a 17-16 at the break.
• Back-to-back Natalie Kolb layups in the first 94 seconds of the third quarter pushed the lead to five. Clinging to a 27-22 lead, Kolb hit a three-point play with 2:45 on the clock and added two more free throws 39 seconds later to push the lead to double digits. Katie Klein (Port Charlotte, Fla./Imagine School at North Point) hit a 3-pointer before two more Kolb free throws with 1:10 showing made it a 34-25 game. Baskets from Conroy and Julia Ryan (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) in the final minute trimmed the deficit to five.
• After a Conroy jumper made it a one-possession game in the first minute of the fourth period, Wilburn hit the first of two free throws. A Klein triple trimmed the deficit to 35-34 before a Burgess turnaround gave McDaniel its first lead with 8:25 to play. Wilburn, however, responded with a putback on the next possession and Williams converted a three-point play with 7:11 remaining. After a Kolb jumper with 5:59 stretched the lead to six, the Green Terror hit 4 of 6 attempts from the free-throw line over the next two minutes to close to within 42-40 with 3:38 to play. Three Diplomat free throws pushed the advantage back to five 45 seconds later. McDaniel pulled within three on three different occasions but F&M hit just enough free throws to win.
