THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel scored twice on a pair of back-post headers in the second half to topple Goucher, 2-0.
THE LEADERS
• Nick Starr (York, Pa./Central York) scored both goals for the Green Terror, notching his first two tallies of the year.
FOR THE FOES
• Jeff Castro led the Gophers with four saves in goal.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• After carrying play in the first half but not being able to convert some quality looks, Nick Lewis (Lutherville, Md./Towson) served a ball from the right endline to Nick Starr on the far post in the 59th minute. Starr drove a header into the top of the net just under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead.
• Nearly 23 minutes later, an Allan Rivera-Benitez (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) corner kick found Starr's head in nearly the same spot on the field and the senior buried into the lower-right corner for the insurance goal.
THE INSIDE STORY
• McDaniel had a 13-7 advantage in shots, including 7-1 in the first half, while each team took four corner kicks.
• Jonathan Mangione (Greer, S.C./JL Mann) made three saves in goal for McDaniel.
• The 59th minute tally broke up a 238-minute, 28-second scoring drought to open the season.
