THE SKINNY
Ursinus outlasted McDaniel, pulling away in the second overtime for a 69-60 victory.
THE LEADERS
• Meggie Burgess (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) led the Green Terror with 13 points, including hitting a 3-pointer as regulation ended to force overtime.
• Ellie Glass (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) added 13 points of her own to go with six rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
• Chinwe Irondi led the Bears with 21 points and 14 rebounds. She was one of five Ursinus players to reach double figures. The quintet accounted for 65 of the team's 69 points.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Ursinus jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the game's first three minutes with all six points coming from Chinwe Irondi. Two Ellie Glass free throws and a Liliana Overcash (Bend, Ore./Mountain View) 3-pointer cut the deficit to one with 4:29 on the clock. The Bears, however, scored eight of the final 11 points in the period to take a 14-8 lead.
• The second quarter was back-and-forth for the entire 10 minutes with Ursinus' lead fluctuating between four and seven points. A single Kelly Grant free throw just before the half ended gave the Bears a 24-17 advantage at the intermission.
• Behind four points from Mallory Conroy (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge), the Green Terror netted the first six points of the third quarter to close to within 24-23 with 6:50 showing. An Alison Lisanti 3-pointer with 2:37 on the clock pushed the lead back to 34-28 but four points from Meggie Bugess and an Overcash jumper tied the game at 34-all. Lisanti closed the quarter with a 3-pointer, however, to put the hosts back in front by three.
• Gabby Downs and Sarah DiLello hit buckets in the first 63 seconds of the fourth quarter to stretch the advantage to 41-34. Trailing 46-39, Josey Klingenberg (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) hit two free throws with 4:25 showing and Ellie Connelly (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) canned two more from the charity stripe a minute later. Overcash hit a free throw with 2:11 left and layup with 1:25 showing to tie the game. Kelly Grant responded with a layup at the other end before hitting the second of two free throws with 6.7 seconds on the clock. Off an inbounds in the frontcourt with 4.4 seconds, Burgess drained a triple from the left wing as the clock expired to force overtime.
• McDaniel scored the first five points of the first overtime before Katie McCusker and Burgess traded jumpers for a 56-51 Green Terror advantage with 1:53 remaining. Downs drained a 3-pointer with 1:08 on the clock then Irondi hit two free throws with 28.6 seconds showing to tie the game. Both teams had a chance in the waning seconds of the period but could not convert to send the game to a second overtime.
• Lisanti hit a 3-pointer 1:14 into the second overtime to give Ursinus a lead it would not relinquish. The lead grew to 64-56 with 1:13 remaining before a Glass layup made it a six-point game. Grant, however, went 5-for-6 from the line in the final minute to secure the victory.
