INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – McDaniel learned on Monday afternoon that its season will continue at home as a regional host site for the first weekend of the NCAA Division III women's soccer tournament.
The Green Terror (17-1-1) earned an automatic bid into the field of 64 with its first Centennial Conference (CC) title, defeating Franklin & Marshall in a penalty shootout on Sunday.
McDaniel will host a regional for the opening two rounds of the tournament for the second time in program history after also hosting in 2016. The Green Terror will take on Penn State-Harrisburg in the first game on Saturday at 11 a.m. Carnegie Mellon will take on Trine in the second game at approximately 1:30 p.m. The winners will meet in the second round on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Lions (12-4-4) defeated Penn State-Berks in the United East Conference championship game 2-1 on Saturday.
The Tartan (11-5-1) were an at-large selection out of the University Athletic Association.
The Thunder (15-4-2) lost in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association final 3-1 to Hope but earned an at-large bid into the tournament.
The Green Terror is making its fourth NCAA tournament berth after also earning an at-large bids in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Senior Hannah Schepers (Port Deposit, Md./St. Mark's) leads the team with 14 goals and 33 points. Graduate student Maddie Schwartz (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) has six goals and a team-best seven assists for 19 points. Sophomore Allison Storm (Abington, Md./Harford Tech) also has six assists.
Senior Katherine Carstensen (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) has a 0.17 goals-against average and .940 save percentage with 11 solo shutouts. The defense has posted 16 shutouts in 19 games this season.
