THE SKINNY
Dickinson put together a 22-9 run that spanned both halves to open up a double-digit lead in the third quarter en route to a 62-51 victory over McDaniel.
THE LEADERS
• Meggie Burgess (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) led the Green Terror with 12 points and four rebounds.
• Katie Klein (Port Charlotte, Fla./Imagine School at North Point) reached double figures for the third straight game with 15 points, including hitting three 3-pointers.
FOR THE FOES
• Kate Montgomery led the Red Devils with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
• Jennifer Kremp added a team-high 13 points.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a back-and-forth start to the game, two Jennifer Kremp free throws with 4:42 on the clock sparked a 6-0 burst to open up a 10-5 advantage less than a minute later. Katie Klein went on a personal 4-0 run to close the deficit to one. Trailing 14-11, Ellie Connelly (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) and Meggie Burgess each canned jumpers in the final 90 seconds for a one-point edge after 10 minutes.
• Julia Ryan (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) stretched the lead to five with a layup on the opening possession of the second quarter. Dickinson, however, countered with the next seven points to take a 21-17 lead with 8:10 showing. Trailing 24-23 after a Mallory Conroy (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) layup with 4:24 to play, Kremp hit a 3-pointer to spark an 11-5 close the quarter to give the hosts a 34-29 lead.
• Baskets from five different players – capped by a Caitlin Blackman 3-pointer – continued to momentum into the third quarter with 11 of the first 15 points to stretch the lead to 45-33 with 3:26 remaining. Burgess made it a 47-29 game but Blackman hit another triple to push the lead back to double digits at the end of the period.
• The Dickinson lead grew to as large as 61-44 midway through the fourth quarter before five points from Ryan keyed a 7-0 run that closed the margin to 10 with 1:52 to play but a single Lindsey Hollenshead free throw was the only point the rest of the way.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Julia Ryan chipped in a season-best 10 points.
• Mallory Conroy added six points and eight rebounds.
