THE SKINNY
York (Pa.) withstood a four-quarter rally by McDaniel, scoring the final six points of the game for a 59-50 victory.
THE LEADERS
• Katie Klein (Port Charlotte, Fla./Imagine School at North Point) reached double digits for the first time in her short Green Terror career, scoring 10 pints off the bench.
• Meggie Burgess (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) led all McDaniel scorers with 11 points.
FOR THE FOES
• Savannah Wilson paced four Spartans in double figures with 17 points. She also had three assists and three steals to go with four rebounds.
• Kayla Ferris finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. She also dished out five assists.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Mallory Conroy (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) hit a pair of baseline jumpers to stake McDaniel to a 4-0 lead in the game's first minute. From there, the first quarter featured three ties and six lead changes. Five Ellie Glass (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) points to close the period gave the hosts a 16-13 edge.
• An Ellie Connelly (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) jumper pushed the lead to five in the early part of the second quarter before Savannah Wilson drained a pair of triples to once again give the Spartans the lead with 5:45 on the clock. The teams traded baskets before a Cassidy Arnold layup sparked a 10-1 close to the quarter and gave York a 31-23 lead at the break.
• The Spartans built a 41-26 advantage 3:44 into the third quarter before a Connelly wing triple sparked a 10-0 run that trimmed the deficit to five with 2:05 to play in the period. Two baskets from Wilson around a pair of Burgess free throws made it a 45-38 game entering the final quarter.
• The lead stretched back to 10 on an Alana Bortner jumper with 7:49 on the clock. A Glass 3-pointer and buckets from Burgess and Klein trimmed the deficit to 51-48 wit 5:46 to play. Ferris and Burgess traded jumpers to keep it a three-point game with 1:56 to play. The Spartans, however, went 4-for-4 from the line in the final 92 seconds and Cassidy Arnold hit a layup on the break for the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
• York held a 34-26 advantage on the glass.
• Josey Klingenberg (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) chipped in five assists, four steals, and four rebounds to go with her two points.
• Ellie Connelly and Ellie Glass each contributed nine points.
