THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel used a 10-0 run that spanned both halves to open up a double-digit lead en route to a 53-39 win over Methodist in the opening round of the Rebecca Martin Memorial Tip-Off Tournament.

• Ellie Glass (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) led the Green Terror with 13 points.

• Jessica Drake led the Monarchs with eight points.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• The first quarter was back-and-forth before Meggie Burgess (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) netted three straight points and Angela DiNunzio (Moorestown, N.J./Paul VI) canned a pair of free throws with 1:44 showing to open up an 11-7 lead. Haley Cousins hit the second of two free throws in the final minute to cut the deficit to three.
• The Monarchs scored the first four of the second quarter to take a one-point lead but the Green Terror responded with seven straight of its own. Clinging to a 21-19 lead, Julia Ryan (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) hit two free throws and Burgess drained a jumper in the lane to open up a 25-19 lead at the break.
• Six straight points from Ellie Glass in the opening 1:18 of the third quarter pushed the lead to 31-19. Melissa D'Oleo drained a triple out of a Methodist timeout to halt the run. Two Maddie Thompson (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) helped extend the lead to 39-25 with 2:07 to play in the period en rtoue to a 41-29 advantage after 30 minutes.
• A pair of Kiley Hicks free throws and a Jessica Drake 3-pointer closed the deficit to 47-37 midway through the fourth quarter but those were the last points the Monarchs would score.
THE INSIDE STORY
• McDaniel finished with a 48-34 rebounding advantage.
• Meggie Burgess added six points and eight rebounds.
