THE SKINNY
After a scoreless first half, the offenses finally found their way in the second half and two Washington goals in the final nine minutes proved the difference in a 3-1 win over McDaniel.
THE LEADERS
• Jason Bruder (York, Pa./West York Area) scored his first career goal to lead the Green Terror.
• Jonathan Mangione (Greer, S.C./JL Mann) anchored the defense with seven saves.
FOR THE FOES
• Eric Gwadz scored twice to lead the Shoremen.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Despite a frist half in which Washington had an 11-1 advantage in shots, the scoreless battle continued into the 60th minute. Eric Gwadz connected on a pass from Greg Adams and Del Jenkins to break up the deadlock. Fewer than five minutes later Jason Bruder received a cross from Allan Rivera-Benitez (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) to tie the game at 1-all.
• The Shoremen continued to pressure, but the Green Terror defense - as it had done all season - held firm until Harrison Malone found an opening and dribbled through to score in the 81st minute.
• With time winding down, the Shoremen were able to take advantage and counter a Green Terror press for the equalizer. Greg Adams put one off the crossbar on a breakaway only to have a streaking Gwadz clean it up for the insurance tally with 1:36 to play.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Washington finished with an advantage of 23-5 in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
