THE REST OF THE STORY
• Josh Sproul and Stephen Lang (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) bookended an 8-2 start to the game with 3-pointers. Washington drew within 10-9 on a Daniel Brown layup on the break with 15:07 on the clock. McDaniel stretched the lead back to 19-13 with 11:00 to play but four points from Tray Wright and a Dallas Marshall triple gave the Shoremen their first lead just 97 seconds later. Patrick Devitt stretched the lead to 22-19 with 8:31 remaining before a pair of Caleb Johnson (Triangle, Va./Gar-Field) baskets and one from Sproul put the Green Terror back in front by three just two minutes later. The Green Terror opened up a 38-33 lead before Wright drove and scored in the waning seconds of the half to cut the margin to three at the break.
• Triples from Sproul and Lang coupled with a Mike Wallace three-point play opened up a 47-37 McDaniel lead in the first 3:07 of the second half. Clinging to a 51-46 advantage, Kaelen Kanealey hit a jumper with 12:21 to play to spark a 12-2 run that gave the hosts a 63-48 lead with 7:39 to play. Washington, however, held the Green Terror without a field goal for the final 9:52 of the half and clawed back into the game. Trailing by three with 11.8 seconds left, the Shoremen got off a 3-pointer from the top of the arc but came up well short. Derrick Carter got the rebound and raced to the right corner. He got off a fadeaway attempt but was fouled in the act with 0.8 seconds left. He then sank all three free throws to force overtime.
• Marshall, Lewis and Wright each netted two points in the first two minutes of the extra session to open up a six-point lead. A Wallace three-point play with 2:09 remaining cut the deficit in half but the Green Terror could get no closer.
THE INSIDE STORY
