THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a back-and-forth start to the game, Liv Storer and Jayce Klingenberg (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) hit jumpers on consecutive possessions to open up a 13-8 advantage with 1:25 to play in the opening period. Dana Bandurick made it eight first-quarter points with a layup in the final seven seconds to close the deficit to 13-10 after 10 minutes.
• An Anna Mondoro 3-pointer to open the second quarter stretched the visitor's lead to six. Bandurick, however, scored back-to-back buckets to trim the deficit to two. McDaniel pushed the lead back to as large as six and held a 22-17 lead before an Elizabeth Stiles layup with 4:22 left started a 10-2 run that put Swarthmore in front by three with 42 ticks remaining. A Storer 19-footer made it a 29-28 game at the break.
• The entire third quarter was played in a five-point span before a Natalie Mehl triple form the left wing tied the game at 42-all at the end of the period.
• Mehl canned another trey to start the fourth quarter. After Tribus and Mehl traded layups, Christina Holmgren hit a layup with 8:27 on the clock to spark a 10-0 run for a 54-47 lead with 6:26 remaining. An Ellie Connelly (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) three-point play trimmed the deficit to four but Tribus converted two layups for the Garnet's largest lead at 58-50 with 4:30 to play. A Josey Klingenberg (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) putback and Mondoro 3-pointer closed the margin to three with 2:10 to play. Swarthmore held McDaniel off the scoreboard for the next 80 seconds but turned the ball over five times before Hannah Ravenscroft (Berryville, Va./Clarke County) finally made the Garnet pay with an elbow jumper to make it a one-point game with 47.1 seconds left. Kim Kockenmeister responded with a 17-footer with 32.5 seconds left to push the lead back to three and ultimately set the final margin.
