Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg held McDaniel without a point for 5 minutes, 55 seconds to open up a 17-point lead en route to a 56-41 victory in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Wednesday.
Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) led the Green Terror (5-19, 2-15 CC) with 15 points.
Matt England paced the Bullets (7-17, 5-12 CC) with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Gettysburg jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the game's first 1:36 before three different players contributed for a 6-2 counter to even the game with 14:11 showing in the first half.
Trailing 12-8, Jared Houck (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Griffin Kirchner (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) drained back-to-back triples for a 14-12 edge with 9:21 on the clock.
An Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) triple stretched the lead to five about three minutes later before the Bullets tallied four straight to close to within one with 4:34 remaining in the first half.
England hit a 3-pointer in the corner just before the first half ended to give Gettysburg a 22-19 lead at the break.
The Bullets extended the run to 9-2, opening up a 28-21 lead with 17:22 remaining in the second half.
McWilliams scored five straight Green Terror points to close the deficit to 32-30 with 14:10 showing.
England and Cameron Stewart, however, responded with back-to-back layups to push the lead back to six just two minutes later.
Chris Jack picked up a loose ball and swished a 3-pointer, pushing the lead to nine and forcing a timeout with 11:09 remaining.
McWilliams hit an elbow jumper to snap a 15-0 run and nearly six-minute scoring drought with 8:15 to play.
Cannon finished with 11 points.
McDaniel concludes the season at home against Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
