Woody wins opening bout

LEXINGTON, Va. – Brendan Woody (Crofton, Md./South River) won his opening match to lead McDaniel at the 2018 Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling championship hosted by Washington and Lee on Saturday.

Scoring:

  • The Green Terror finished eighth with 4.5 points. Stevens won the team title with 100 points.

Falling for the First Time: The following athletes recorded pins on the day:

  • Woody notched a 4-minute, 54-second fall over Scott Schaeffer (Muhlenberg) in the opening round before falling in the semifinals to eventual champion Paul Triandafilou, 12-3.

Winning: The following athletes rounded out winners on the day:

  • Jake Reid (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Henderson) went 1-2 at 125 with his lone win coming in the first round of the consolation bracket by a 9-3 score over Jace Garza (Merchant Marine).
  • Ronald Mattox (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) notched an 11-6 win in the first round of the consolation bracket at 174, topping Anthony Cutrufello (Ursinus).
  • Jake Pooton (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) won his first consolation bracket match at 197, topping Stevens' Colin Myers by a 5-3 score
