McDaniel won three of the final four bouts, including two by fall, to top Averett, 22-21.
THE LEADERS
• Cole Nagle (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Twp.) recorded a 1-minute, 44-second fall at 174.
• Chris Hauffman (Westminster, Md./Westminster) added a 32-second pin at heavyweight to secure the win for the Green Terror.
FOR THE FOES
• Jared Lough led the Cougars with an 18-0 win at 165.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Samuel Braswell staked Averett to a 3-0 lead with a 12-7 win at 126.
• Ryker Eckenbarger (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) followed with a 15-1 victory at 133 for a 4-3 edge in the match.
• An 8-3 win by Brandon Woody at 141 and a Caleb Harmon forfeit victory at 149 gave the Cougars a 12-4 lead in the match.
• Wade BIshop (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) won 8-6 at 157 to close the deficit to 12-7 but Jared Lough's first-period technical fall pushed the Averett advantage to 17-7.
• Cole Nagle got the Green Terror back on track with his first-period fall.
• Demontay Wimbush, however, countered with a 13-3 win at 184, stretching the lead back to eight.
• Jaime Rodriguez (Westminster, Md./Westminster) kept hope alive for McDaniel with a 7-3 win before Chris Hauffman capped off the rally with the early fall for the one-point win.
