THE SKINNY STORY
McDaniel won the first two sets before Haverford rallied to take the third set. The Green Terror took back control in the fourth set for a 3-1 win.
THE LEADERS
• Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) led the attack with 13 kills. She had just one error in 28 swings to hit .429 on the night.
• Marlowe Embry (San Jose, Calif./J.H. Pitman) added 12 kills, eight digs and two aces.
• Gayle Edelstein (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) chipped in 28 assists and seven digs.
• Makayla Patterson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) contributed six kills and seven total blocks.
• Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Md./Albemarle) steadied the defense with 17 digs.
FOR THE FOES
• Madison Adore had 11 kills.
• Dina Kosyagin also had 11 kills.
• Sara Matsumura led the defense with 30 digs.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• After falling behind 1-0 in the first set, Makayla Patterson put down a kill to start a 7-2 open to the match. The lead swelled to 16-6 on a combined block from Allie Lugar and Patterson en route to a 25-16 victory.
• The second set featured seven early ties and three lead changes before back-to-back Lugar knockdowns keyed an 11-3 run to take control of the set, 19-11. Haverford closed to within 21-18 before an Isabel Paci (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) kill and Emma Lorenzen (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) ace sparked a 4-1 finish for a 25-19 win.
• McDaniel shot out to a 7-0 lead in the third set. The Green Terror held a 13-5 advantage before the Fords closed to within 14-10 and force a timeout. The Fords used three Dina Kosyagin kills down the stretch to rally for a 25-21 victory and force a fourth set.
• Tied at 5-all in the fourth set, a Ford error gave McDaniel the lead for good. Seven straight service points from Gayle Edelstein stretched the lead to 15-7 and helped the Green Terror take control en route to a 25-18 victory.
THE INSIDE STORY
• With two conference matches to play, McDaniel currently sits in the fifth and final playoff spot – one-half game ahead of Gettysburg.
• The seven blocks were a career high for Makayla Patterson.
• It was the fourth straight match – and sixth this season – with eight or more total team blocks.
