Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins opened up a 19-point early in the second half en route to a 64-51 win over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Thursday.
Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) led the Green Terror (4-14, 1-10 CC) with 22 points and six rebounds.
Kyle Doran led three players in double figures for the Blue Jays (14-4, 8-3 CC) with 17 points. Harry O'Neil added 16 while Michael Gardner added 14.
Tied at 3-all, a Doran 3-pointer sparked an 8-0 run that put the hosts on top 11-3 just 2:46 into the game.
Five straight points from Johns Hopkins pushed the lead to 23-12 with 9:14 to play in the opening half before four straight points from Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) and a pair of McWilliams 3-pointer closed the deficit to one nearly four minutes later.
Triples from Joey Kern and Gardner on back-to-back possessions stretched the lead back to 29-21 with 4:31 on the clock en route to a 36-26 halftime advantage.
Three 3-pointers in the first 1:45 of the second half, however, ballooned the lead to 19.
Trailing 48-29, a McWilliams trey sparked a 10-2 burst that closed the margin to 11 midway through the second half but that's as close as McDaniel could get.
Cannon added 13 points and five assists for the Green Terror while DJ Harper (Glenn Dale, Md./Riverdale Baptist) finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
McDaniel returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Thursday. Game time is 8 p.m.
