Paci records 12 kills, four blocks in victory

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel recorded seven blocks and 82 digs to assist in a 3-1 victory over York (Pa.) in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday.

Isabel Paci (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) led the Green Terror (4-1) with career highs of 12 kills and four total blocks. Marlowe Embry (Milpitas, Calif./J.H. Pitman) and Emma Lorenzen (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) also reached double figures in kills with 20 and 14, respectively.

Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led four players with double-digit digs with 28. Embry rounded out her second double-double with 18 digs. Kendall Hanak (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) and Kennedy Barlond (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) chipped in 14 and 10, respectively.

Cheyenne Altland led the Spartans (4-1) with nine kills while Alexis Harbold steadied the defense with 25 digs.

Up 15-10 in the first set, a Bauman ace sparked a 6-1 run that pushed the advantage to 21-11. McDaniel held a 24-15 lead before York reeled off five straight points to close to within 24-20 but a Paci-Hayley Mills (Bowie, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) block capped a 25-20 win.

After a back-and-forth start to the second set, Gayle Edelstein (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) keyed a 5-0 run with an ace to open up a 15-7 lead en route to a 25-17 victory and 2-0 lead in the match.

The Spartans jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third set before the Green Terror rallied to even the set at 14-all on a Hanak ace.

Neither team opened up a lead of more than two points the rest of the way before a Brooke Krebs kill and McDaniel error gave York a 29-27 win and forced a fourth set.

One of Barlond's two aces keyed a 5-0 run that opened up a 21-11 lead in the fourth set. The Spartans closed to within 24-17 but an attacking error ended the match.

Lorenzen and Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) added three block assists each. Lauren Wells (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) chipped in 28 assists while Edelstein had 23.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against St. Mary's (Md.) on Friday. Match time is 7 p.m.
