GETTYSBURG, Pa. – McDaniel opened the season with a 3-0 win over Marywood before dropping a 3-1 decision to Kenyon on the first day of the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg in season-opening volleyball action on Friday.

Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led the way on defense for the Green Terror (1-1) with 37 digs in the two matches. Freshman Marlowe Embry (Milpitas, Calif./J.H. Pitman) paced the attack with 23 kills.

In the opening match against Marywood (0-1), Embry led the way with 11 kills in just two sets played. The Green Terror took the opening set 25-21 before completing the sweep, 25-20 and 25-17.

Isabel Paci (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) and Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) added six kills each. Lauren Wells (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) and Gayle Edelstein (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) contributed to the attack with 16 and nine assists, respectively. Edelstein added six digs while Wells had five.

Bauman steadied the defense with eight digs while Kendall Hanak (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) added seven digs.

Against Kenyon (2-0), Embry notched her first collegiate double-double with 12 kills and 21 digs. Defensively, she was only topped by Bauman's 29 digs. The Ladies took the opening set 25-21 before the Green Terror took a 25-23 win to tie the match at 1-all. Kenyon countered with its own two-point win, taking set three by a 26-24 margin and then closed out the night with a 25-13 victory.

Lugar also reached double digits in kills with 10. Wells contributed 32 assists.

Kennedy Barlond (Battle Creek, Mich./Pennfield) chipped in 17 digs defensively. Emma Lorenzen (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) added nine kills.

The Green Terror returns to action on second day of the Battlefield Classic at Gettysburg. McDaniel takes on Penn State-Harrisburg at 10 a.m. and Hood at 2 p.m.
