Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel rallied from an 11-point deficit with 14:02 to play to defeat Muhlenberg 73-57 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action on Saturday.
Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) recorded his second 30-point game of the season for the Green Terror (12-13, 8-10 CC), leading all scorers with 30. Kevin Yrizarry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills) closed his career with a career-high 19 rebounds to go with eight points and three assists.
Brandon LaRose led the Mules (12-12, 7-11 CC) with 21 points while Owen McLeod added 16 points.
Trailing 45-34, McWilliams drained one of his seven 3-pointers with 13:03 showing to start the rally.
A Nick Perugino (Lewes, Del./Salesianum) steal-and-layup drimmed the deficit to six.
After a single JeanLee Baez free throw made it a 46-39 game, James McGovern (Glenside, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) hit a 3-pointer and a layup 26 seconds apart to make it a two-point game, scoring the first five of his career-best 15 points.
McWilliams added another 3-pointer for a 47-46 lead with 10:05 showing.
Three Muhlenberg free throws gave the visitors a 49-47 edge before McGovern hit another trey, giving his team the lead for good with 7:40 remaining.
After 3-pointers from McWilliams and McGovern on back-to-back possessions gave the hosts a 58-51 lead, Nigel Long responded with a trey of his own.
McWilliams had the answer once again, sparking a 15-2 run to clinch the victory.
McDaniel jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the game capped by a Perugino 3-pointer – the first of 11 on the afternoon for the hosts.
The Mules, however, responded with 12 of the next 13 points to take a 12-10 advantage with 12:24 on the clock.
A Yrizarry layup with 7:50 remaining in the first half snapped a 9-minute, 16-second drought from the floor and closed the deficit to 16-13.
Muhlenberg gradually expanded the lead to 34-23 at halftime and built a lead as large as 13 before three minutes elapsed in the second half.
McWilliams seven triples is the most in the game by a Green Terror player since Nov. 22, 2011.
DJ Harper (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) rounded out a trio in double figures with 10 points.
