Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. – Johns Hopkins took the opening set 25-12 to key a 3-0 win over McDaniel in the semifinal of the 2017 Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball tournament on Saturday.

Allie Lugar (Wilmington, Del./Dupont) led the Green Terror (19-8) with five kills, three service aces and two blocks.

Simone Bliss led a balanced attack for the Blue Jays (23-3) with nine kills. Johns Hopkins advances to Sunday's championship match against the winner of the day's second semifinal between Swarthmore and Muhlenberg.

An Elizabeth Wuerstle ace helped Johns Hopkins jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first set. Five straight points that included a pair of Kristi Rhead kills stretched the lead to 22-9 en route to a 25-12 victory.

Four straight Blue Jay errors gave McDaniel a 5-2 lead in the second set. After a Teryn Rath (Grass Valley, Calif./Bear River) kill made it a 13-11 advantage before a Rhead kill started a 5-1 run that gave Johns Hopkins a 16-14 edge that they did not relinquish en route to a 25-21 victory.

After seven ties in the first 22 points, Wuerstle put down a kill for a 12-11 edge and sparked a 6-0 run for a 17-11 lead en route to a 25-16 victory.

Rath added five kills while Taylor Bauman (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led the defense with 11 digs.

The Green Terror will await ECAC tournament selections on Monday to see its postseason fate.
