GRANTHAM, Pa. – Ryker Eckenbarger (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) finished third at 133 to lead McDaniel to a ninth-place finish at the Messiah Invitational in season-opening wrestling action on Saturday.

Scoring:

• The Green Terror placed ninth at the 10-team invitational with 34 points. Messiah won its own invite with 142.5 points, outdistancing second-place Lycoming by 52 points.

• Eckenbarger opened his day with a bye before notching a pair of second-period falls to advance to semifinals. He downed Elizabethtown's Josh McLaughlin in 4:05 before topping Deonte Carter (UMBC) in 3:40. Top-seeded Hunter Harris (Messiah) topped Eckenbarger with a pin in 4:31. In the consolation bracket, Eckenbarger notched an 8-1 decision and 7-1 decision to place third.
