Box Score SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State-Schuylkill had the final say in a game that featured five ties and 20 lead changes, defeating McDaniel 62-61 in non-conference men's basketball action on Sunday.
Austin Cannon (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) led the Green Terror (1-3) with 13 points, six rebounds and seven assists while DJ Harper (Glenn Dale, Md./Riverdale Baptist) led the way in the scoring column with 14 points.
Kody Jacoby paced the Lions (1-4) with 19 points. Including the game-winning 3-pointer.
Trailing 61-59 after two Josh McWilliams (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) free throws with 36.2 seconds left, Jacoby hit a triple from the top of the arc falling away with 7.4 seconds remaining.
McDaniel was called for a double dribble on the ensuing possession but Penn State-Schulykill was called for an illegal screen before inbounding the ball with 2.5 seconds to give the Green Terror one last chance at the win. The 27-footer was short of the mark as the horn sounded.
The first half featured 12 ties and three lead changes alone with neither team building a lead of greater than seven.
Trailing 10-8, Devon Duvall (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) hit a layup with 15:27 to play to spark a 9-0 run that gave McDaniel a 17-10 lead just 2 minutes, 35 seconds later.
A Lamonttea Brown jumper, however, snapped the run and started a 15-3 counter that put the hosts on top by five with 8:39 showing and the Lions did not trail the remainder of the first half.
The Green Terror connected on the first five points of the second half, including a Harper layup and McWilliams triple on the break for a 40-39 lead just 35 seconds into the stanza.
Four points from Harper and a Duvall layup gave McDaniel a 50-45 lead with 12:16 showing and the visitors lead grew as large as 55-49 on a Cannon runner that just beat the shot clock with 9:08 to play.
Harper gave the Green Terror a 59-54 lead with 5:56 remaining but a Jacoby jumper and Price Szeliga 3-poiner tied the game just over a minute later and then the defenses took over until the final 30 seconds.
McDaniel returns to action at Dickinson on Thursday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
