Eckenbarger goes 3-0 in pair of wins

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel won its first two matches en route to a 2-1 day at the Green Terror Duals in non-conference wrestling action on Saturday.

Ryker Eckenbarger (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) recorded a pair of pins as part of a 3-0 outing to lead the Green Terror (2-1), who defeated Penn State-Mont Alto 59-0 and UMBC 43-7 before falling to Scranton 33-9 to close the day.

Against the Lions (0-3), Jacob Reid (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Henderson) opened the match with a pin, earning the fall on the edge of the mat just two seconds before the first period ended.

Eckenbarger and Zachary McAleer (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) earned forfeits for an 18-0 lead.

Scott Miser (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) took an 18-0 technical fall win late in the first period before Cole Nagle (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Twp.) and Wade Bishop (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) added forfeit wins for a 35-0 lead.

Ronnie Wuest (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) added a 5-minute, 49-second fall at 174 before Ronald Mattox (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) had a pin in just 57 seconds at 184.

Jake Pooton (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) and Billy Emerson (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill) rounded out the 59-0 win with forfeits.

Pins by Nick Malinowski (Baltimore, Md./Boys Latin School of Maryland) and Eckenbarger staked McDaniel to a 12-0 lead against UMBC.

Jahmally Willie (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) and Miser added technical falls to push the lead to 22-0. Willie won 21-2 in the second period at 141 before Miser won 18-2 in the third period at 149.

A Nagle 8-2 win and Bishop 1-minute, 46-second pin made it 31-0 before CJ Ashby got the Retrievers on the board with a 6-4 victory at 174.

Mattox won by fall in 1:21 at 184 and Pooton took a forfeit at 197 before Chukwadi Kalu won 13-4 at heavyweight to set the final margin.

Against the Royals (5-2), Reid and Eckenbarger opened with wins to stake the Green Terror to a 9-0 lead before Scranton won the final eight matches.

Reid won 8-2 at 125 before Eckenbarger tallied a 2-minute, 7-second fall for the 9-0 lead.

TJ Conton keyed the run by the Royals with a pin in 3:52 at 149. Kevin Merle added an 18-2 technical fall at 165.

Keegan Connelly and Pooton had the highlight bout of the match at 197. The duo went to overtime tied at 1-all and both earned an escape in the first tiebreaker period. Pooton had a chance at a takedown but couldn't finish it in the second sudden-victory period and Connelly turned that into a takedown of his own midway through the one-minute session for a 4-2 win.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Wilkes and Southern Virginia on Saturday, Dec. 2. Action begins at 12 p.m.
