Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – McDaniel capped a flurry of five goals in the final 20 minutes, netting the game-winning goal with just 1:06 to play for a 3-2 win at Catholic in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Kathryn Dixon (New Bern, N.C./New Bern) scored the final tally for the Green Terror (11-4), carrying the ball down to the left wing and firing to the back post to break the 2-all deadlock.
Alexa Povelaitis paced the Cardinals (9-6) with both goals for the home team.
After a scoreless first 70 minutes, Marissa Funke (Kings Park, N.Y./Smithtown West) headed the ball off a corner to the foot of Lindsey Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven), who finished at the 70:35 mark.
Katie Kirschenmann (Damascus, Md./Damascus) doubled the advantage four-and-a-half minutes later. Jackie Fahrenholz (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) carried down the right side and found Kirschenmann, who one-touched it home for a 2-0 lead.
Povelaitis broke through for Catholic off a cross from Andrea Jablonskyj at the 80:56 mark.
Just two minutes later, the same duo connected again with Povelaitis headed home a lobbed ball from 35 yards out.
Sydney Kelly (Windsor, Pa./Eastern York) made three saves for McDaniel while Nina Fernandez had six stops for Catholic.
Each team took 15 shots while the Cardinals had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Muhlenberg on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
