Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. – McDaniel closed the first half with a 10-4 run and never trailed in the second half to defeat Susquehanna 50-40 in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday.
Liv Storer (Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia/Galen Catholic) led the Green Terror (4-6) with 12 points. Jasmine Smith (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) joined Storer with game-high scoring honors, also adding 12 points.
Courtney Adams led the River Hawks (10-2) with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Traiing 18-14 on an Adams jumper with 6:00 to play in the second quarter, Smith hit a jumper in the paint and Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) added a layup to even the game just shy of a minute later.
The teams traded baskets before Smith hit a layup in the final 33 seconds of the half to give the visitors a 24-22 edge at the intermission.
Storer tallied the first four points of the third quarter, extending the lead to six with 6:34 remaining.
Alyssa March (Fallston, Md./Fallston) added a pair of baskets around a Lexi Biggs-Garcia jumper to make it an eight-point game with 4:22 on the clock.
After Sarah Bach (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) added a free throw a minute later, Nikki Komara keyed a 7-0 run with five points to close the deficit to two with 1:00 on the third-quarter clock.
Two Storer free throws and a 3-pointer from the freshman stretched the lead to 38-31 entering the final quarter.
Adams drew the hosts within 45-40 with 34 ticks remaining but the Green Terror went 6-for-7 from the free-throw line in the waning seconds to secure the victory.
Susquehanna jumped out to a 6-0 lead midway through the first quarter before Smith got McDaniel's first points of the game five minutes in.
A Storer triple 45 seconds into the second quarter tied the game at 14-all before the River Hawks scored the next four points.
March led the way on the glass with 10 rebounds to go with six points.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Bryn Mawr on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
